Évasion (Getaway): pick a destination at random with Mondial Toboggan

The last summer before…

After Olympique and its sports-inspired imagery, Mondial Toboggan returns with Évasion, their second album. Nine synth-pop/nu-disco tracks with a French flair, featuring analog synthesizers, that carry on their old-fashioned sound; the sound of the late 20th century, of our parents’ childhood, just before screens became glued to our hands.

This second album reaffirms the Mondial Toboggan sound with crisp harmonies, smooth melodies, a polished sound crafted by Corentin Kerdraon (aka Nit), and an aesthetic that takes us back to that era with a modern twist, conceived by Quentin-Gary Tashdjian, Gauthier Arnauné, and Vivien Valque.

It’s an ode to a summer that was still carefree, now a distant dream. The last summer before everything changed. From Laïka’s slumber in the bar cars to the tragic fate of the CX, Mondial Toboggan takes us on a journey through this suspended season.

Escape, then. But what kind of escape are we talking about? A getaway? A childhood daydream? A flight to another era? A prison break, perhaps. Not tax evasion, we hope.

One thing is certain: you open Évasion like a novel, and you follow it all summer long. It’s that cheesy charm, the tranquility, the sweetness of the little things: taking a road map, picking a random destination, stopping wherever you want. The VHS is rolling. We start listing our tiny joys.

And when life is flying by at 260 an hour, everything flies by with it. The lives around me, love, the scenery. From one landscape to the next, through tunnels. I think I’ve gotten sunburned now.

About Mondial Toboggan

Illegitimate child of Jean-Michel Jarre, Jean-Jacques Perrey and François de Roubaix, Mondial Toboggan emerged out of a passion for vintage synthesizers and cassette recorders.

Led by Quentin-Gary Tashdjian and Corentin Kerdraon (aka nit signed to Record Makers), they developed a unique aesthetic: the music of tomorrow composed yesterday; a nostalgic synth-pop infused with disco, with hints of TV movie soundtracks.
